Track lighting is a great way to focus light in specific areas in the home. Unlike traditional lighting that fill a room, track lighting is used to highlight. A common use for track lighting is to focus light on an art piece to make it more eye catching and a turn the object into a focal point in the room. Another great use for track lights is focusing light in a dark work area such as in a kitchen.
What separates track lighting from other types of lighting is its ability to attach multiple lamps and focus each individual lamp freely. The track attaches to an electrical sources in the ceiling. Once the power source is connected, the laps attach anywhere on the track and are powered by an electrical connector.
There are many different types of designs of track lights that can be used to match any room. Track lights can be hung almost anywhere, especially on high or vaulted ceilings. If there is a specific area that needs to be lit up, or a painting waiting to standout, track lighting is a great option for any home.

Carbon Monoxide Detector Law
As of July 1st 2011, all single family and two unit homes that use gas burning appliances are required to install a carbon monoxide detector. Carbon Monoxide is an invisible gas that can only be detected with an alarm dedicated to sensing its presence. The most common emitters of this deadly gas include: vehicle engines, fireplaces, barbecues, and furnaces.
With no form of carbon monoxide detection in place, home owners put themselves at risk of harm should there be a malfunction in the appliances described above. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning range from dizziness, headaches, vomiting, and possibly death.
Carbon monoxide detectors should be placed in hallways outside of bedrooms. There are different types carbon monoxide detectors that can be purchased. Some detectors use batteries while others are plugged into an outlet. Carbon monoxide detectors can also be wired into your electrical system. Let Maine Electric protect your home today! Light-emitting diode (LED)
The continuous advancement in technology has opened up more options for lighting a home. Given the phasing out of incandescent lighting, a relatively new form of lighting for homes growing in popularity are LEDs. Unlike standard light bulbs, LED lights put out relatively low amounts of heat and are much more environmentally friendly. For example, an LED can run on about 8 watts where as a standard incandescent light takes 60 watts.
The life span of an LED also out preforms the light bulb by a long shot. A normal light bulb can last roughly up to 2,000 hours where as an LED can last up to 50,000, but an LED does not burn out like a normal bulb. Over time, an LED light will slowly dim and wont be as bright as when they were first installed. Although gradual dimming may seem as a draw, it is important to understand both the positives and negatives of LED lights and determine what is best for you. LEDs are a great alternative to the standard light bulb and a great way to save on electric bills.

Vacancy Sensors
Leaving the lights on when no one is in the room will contribute to wasted electricity and an unneeded amount of money spent on the electrical bill. A great way to help cut costs on electricity and extend the life of lamps is to install vacancy sensors.
The vacancy sensor works like a normal light switch but the added benefit is that it will turn off the lights if no one is in the room. A great place to install one is in a location that where lights tend to be left on, such as the bedroom, bathroom, or kids playroom. Children are notorious for constantly running around the house and playing in and out of rooms. Why not save the trouble of chasing behind them to turn off all the lights. With vacancy sensors, never again will a light be left on all night mistakenly by you or the kids.

Junction Box
Junction boxes are a requirement when two wires are spliced together, but why? A junction box could be the difference between a huge mess or a simple fix. The junction box also simplifies in times of electrical troubleshooting but most importantly protects form a potential fire.
When two wires are joined together, there always is a chance for potential problems. If spliced together incorrectly, the constant expansion and contraction could result in an electrical arc that leads to intense heat. A junction box will help prevent a fire from occurring by containing the problem inside the box. These boxes are potential life savers and insure that the home is protected. It is important to understand all of big and small safety features in place within your home when starting a new electrical project. If you want to be sure an electrical job is done correctly and safely, it is important to contact a trained and licensed electrician to help with the job.
